Independent Facilitation and Support

As an independent facilitator, I stand unencumbered, free from conflicts of interest, and without any organizational ties to residential or community day support programs. My role is distinct from service system’s assessments, eligibility determinations, service provision, funding allocations, or oversight. This permits me to form close, supportive relationships with individuals, their families, and loved ones, guiding them through meaningful changes without bureaucratic constraints.

With over 30 years of experience, I hold a steadfast belief that people with disabilities, along with their families and loved ones, are capable of defining and prioritizing their needs and wants and re-imagining their life. I have learned that everyone has the capacity to express their will and preferences, actively participating in crucial life decisions with meaningful support.

Fostering Connections and Long-Term Change

I work consistently on cultivating trusting and lasting connections with people so that they begin to create a stronger sense of self and what is possible in their lives. Recognizing the significance of family ties, I acknowledge and enhance existing relationships. In cases where familial bonds are absent, I assist people in identifying and strengthening connections with those who love and care for them, fostering enduring support networks.

My role as a facilitator is centered on supporting and catalyzing change. Engaging everyone in the change process, means that complex change is held collaboratively, and learning is shared among those that matter most. My focus extends beyond immediate changes, encompassing long-term or “legacy” plans for a time when parental support is no longer available. This forward-thinking approach involves collective contemplation of the future, intentionally fostering abiding relationships, understanding how people envision their lives unfolding without parental presence, identifying vulnerabilities, and establishing safeguards well in advance.

I have learned that while formal written plans can provide clarity on vision and direction, they often fall short in detailing day-to-day next steps. Regular informal conversations become the compass, identifying urgent needs and steps crucial for progressing toward the envisioned future. The written plan offers a snapshot, but continuous evaluation is the heartbeat of the process, ensuring ongoing adaptability and forward movement.
